2D Art Director

2D Art Director: What You Will Accomplish 

As a 2D Art Director, you will lead the visual direction of projects from concept to completion, ensuring that all designs align with the brand’s vision and client objectives. You will collaborate closely with designers, illustrators, and other creative team members to develop compelling 2D visual assets, including illustrations, graphics, and layouts for print, digital, and environmental applications. Your work will set the creative standard for the team, inspire innovative design solutions, and maintain consistency across all projects. Additionally, you will provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers, ensuring high-quality output while fostering a collaborative and creative environment.

How You Will be Successful: 

  • Lead and oversee the creation of 2D visual assets that meet project objectives and client expectations.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, including 3D designers, project managers, and account managers.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback and guidance to design team members.
  • Maintain visual consistency and uphold brand standards across all deliverables.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Stay current with design trends, software, and industry best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders to convey design rationale.

Skills for Success 

Years of Professional Experience:
5–8 years of professional experience in graphic design, illustration, or visual art, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or art director role.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Illustration, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience). Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), knowledge of typography, layout, color theory, and illustration techniques. Equivalent professional experience or specialized training in 2D design and visualization may be considered

  • What you already know:
    You have a strong grasp of 2D design principles and visual storytelling, with the ability to translate client goals and creative briefs into compelling visual solutions. You bring leadership and mentorship experience within a creative team and possess excellent communication skills for collaborating effectively with both team members and clients.

Junior Designer – Environments: What You Will Accomplish 

As a Junior Designer – Environments at Starch, you will support the design team by helping bring creative concepts to life through 3D models, renderings, and technical drawings. You will assist in preparing presentations, production documentation, and organized project files that clearly communicate design intent. By collaborating closely with project managers, fabricators, and senior designers, you will contribute to the execution of branded environments, installations, and custom builds. Through your attention to detail and commitment to quality, you will help ensure that projects are delivered on time, align with the creative vision, and are both visually compelling and production-ready.

How You Will be Successful: 

  • Approach each project with curiosity, creativity, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Stay organized and attentive to detail, ensuring that files, drawings, and documentation are clear and accurate.

Skills for Success 

Years of Professional Experience:
0–2 years of professional design experience, preferably in environmental, experiential, exhibit, interior, or industrial design (internships or studio experience acceptable).

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design, Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, Exhibition Design, or a related field. Equivalent education and/or relevant hands-on experience may be considered.

  • What you already know:
    Experience creating 3D models, renderings, and presentation materials using industry-standard design software. Exposure to working in collaborative, cross-disciplinary teams (design, project management, fabrication, or related fields).

Senior Producer / Project Manager: What You Will Accomplish 

As a Senior Producer / Project Manager at Starch, you will play a pivotal role in both client relationships and project execution. You’ll act as the strategic liaison between clients and our creative and fabrication teams, ensuring brand integrity, exceptional service, and timely delivery across a wide range of experiential and design-driven initiatives. This is a perfect next step for a seasoned pro who thrives at the intersection of creativity and organization. You’ll bring clarity to complexity, elevate communication, and drive outcomes that exceed expectations all while being a core part of the exciting growth and innovation at Starch.

How You Will be Successful: 

  • Manage client relationships throughout project execution.
  • Lead cross-functional internal teams through the end-to-end creative process.
  • Scope, plan, and manage multiple concurrent design and experiential projects.
  • Ensure every detail aligns with project scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Drive collaboration between designers, producers, and fabricators to bring ideas to life.
  • Forecast timelines and resource needs with clarity and flexibility.
  • Present creative ideas and solutions to clients in an inspiring, confident way.

  • Contribute to building best practices and scalable systems for our account + project teams.

Skills for Success 

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in project management. 
  • Extensive background managing high budget design and experiential projects across diverse industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale, complex projects from concept through design, production, installation, and post-activation.
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining senior-level client relationships, serving as a trusted strategic partner.
  • Deep expertise in budget development, cost management, and vendor negotiation across multiple project types.
  • Strong leadership skills: able to mentor and guide cross-functional teams of designers, producers, and fabricators.
  • Exceptional ability to anticipate risks, problem-solve, and make high-level decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in agency workflows and project management systems along with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills. Comfortable leading executive-level conversations with confidence.

Experience 

  • Experience on fast-paced, overlapping project schedules, balancing creativity with operational excellence.
  • Hands-on knowledge of retail buildouts, tradeshow booth production, fabrication processes, and live event activations.
  • Success in driving projects that require coordination of external vendors, contractors, and internal creative/fabrication resources.
  • Previous agency or consultancy experience where client-facing strategy and execution were equally critical.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing scalable systems and processes to improve efficiency and quality across project teams.

Educational Requirements:

Collaborating closely with designers, project managers, and fabricators, you will help bridge the gap between concept and execution, providing visuals that guide decision-making and streamline production.

  • Deliver high-quality 3D models, renderings, and visualizations that accurately reflect project goals and creative direction.
  • Collaborate effectively with designers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure visuals are both practical and buildable.
  • Manage time efficiently, balancing multiple projects and meeting deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Take initiative to identify potential challenges in design or visualization and propose solutions proactively.
  • Communicate clearly, both visually and verbally, to convey complex design concepts to clients and internal teams.

Years of Professional Experience:
3-5 years of experience in 3D modeling, rendering, or visualization, ideally in architecture, experiential design, interior environments, or related fields.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Environmental Design, Architecture, Interior Design, 3D Animation, or a related field. Familiarity with design and visualization software (e.g., SketchUp, Enscape, Rhino, 3ds Max, Blender) is strongly preferred. Equivalent professional experience or specialized training in 3D design and visualization may be considered

  • What you already know:
    You have strong technical skills in 3D modeling and visualization, with the ability to turn ideas and references into detailed, production-ready models. You’re comfortable collaborating with designers, project managers, and fabrication teams—or eager to grow into that collaboration—by providing accurate and practical visual solutions. You know how to manage multiple tasks at once, stay organized, and hit deadlines without sacrificing quality. Experience preparing presentation materials, client visuals, or build documentation is a bonus, but not required.
